On September 7th the GlazenHuis officially opened its second exhibition: ‘Masters & Techniques – in contemporary glass art’. After the conceptual exhibition by plastic artist Koen VANMECHELEN we approached glass from a technical and artistic point of view.
It was the aim of this exhibition to make the visitor acquainted with the various manifestations. Glass as a material, not as an artistic discipline. Technique as a means, not as an aim in itself. We had selected 9 categories of glass techniques. Each technique, explained in a short definition, was represented by two artists. They showed work that came into being through an artistic approach of a certain technique, resulting in a unique expression. This exhibition was a colourful confrontation of the work of 21 artists, born, living and/or working in Belgium or The Netherlands. All pieces of art were given on loan by the artists, or belong to the collection owned by the town of Lommel, or to private collections.
‘Masters & techniques’ was an exploratory exhibition for a broad public, under our own control.
